“Gentle Eyes” portrays a hyena in a calm and intimate moment. Often misunderstood, hyenas are in fact highly intelligent and deeply social animals, living in complex family structures and strong matriarchal communities.

In this miniature painting, I wanted to focus on the warmth and sensitivity in the animal’s gaze — inviting the viewer to look beyond common stereotypes and discover a different perspective.

The earthy tones and layered brushstrokes create texture and depth, while the soft background keeps the focus on the expressive eyes.

Though small in size, the artwork carries emotional presence. The wooden panel is painted on all sides and can be displayed unframed, giving it a contemporary, object-like character.

A meaningful wildlife miniature for collectors who appreciate realism, nuance and the beauty of often overlooked species.

Varnished with a satin varnish. Sides are painted. Ready to hang.

Materials

Acrylic on wood panel, depth 3 cm (1.2 in). The final work is signed on front and back . It is finished with a clear satin varnish to protect the work for years of enjoyment.
